PARTNERSHIPS FOR SUCCESS - About Us

In 2002, Governor Taft issued a challenge for Ohioans to come together and work toward the vision of "enabling every child to succeed." Partnerships for Success (PfS) came from this challenge. PfS is a county level collaborative approach to address the needs of youth and families.

Involvement at the state level includes Ohio's First Lady, Hope Taft, The Ohio Department of Youth Services and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Technical support is provided by the Center for Learning Excellence at The Ohio State University. In Licking County, The Children and Families First Council (CFFC) manages PfS and this website is a direct result of this collaboration. PfS serves as the foundation for setting priorities within the Council.

In response to state legislation requiring each county to form a local council, The Licking County CFFC was established in 1995. Our Council is an association of 26 public and non-profit organizations, schools, clergy, parents, and elected officials, committed to strengthening families and improving the local social and human service delivery system by working together and sharing resources. With an annual budget over one million dollars, the CFFC is funded primarily by state, federal and local grant awards, supplemented with local contributions from its membership. Following is a list of Council members:

In July, 2002, Licking County was selected as one of only ten (10) counties to receive a PfS grant award in the amount of $100,000. These funds were used to develop a 5-year plan to address the most critical problems facing of children and adolescents in Licking County. Over the next twelve months, with the participation and hard work of nearly two dozen local organizations, groups, and agencies in addition to parents, elected officials and concerned citizens:

  • Identified risks and strengths of adolescents using local, state and national data.
  • Identified and reviewed community resources and services
  • Identified service gaps
  • Determined the two areas of highest need in Licking County to be::
    • Family Violence
    • Substance Abuse
  • Developed a 5-year plan in response to these needs

Beginning in 2003, we offered grants to community groups, launched a web site, provided jobs and life skills training for youth through our Community Youth Mapping project; and offered training for community service providers as a first step in tackling family violence and substance abuse. With your support, we hope to continue our efforts to make the biggest positive difference possible for the children, youth and families in Licking County.
