Resources
Types of Resources:

Community Action Agency
Community Action Agencies are locally controlled, private, non-profit organizations whose purpose is to reduce poverty and to help low-income people become self-sufficient. Some agencies have established interest-free loans for people who need small loans for simple home repairs.

Information and Referral (“I & R”)
Information and Referral is a unique process of assessment and information-giving that enables people to make informed decisions about accessing community resources. Comprehensive databases of social, community and government services are utilized in order to provide a wide variety of choices and alternatives to individuals within a service area. The goal of Information and Referral is to bring people and services together by providing a source of information that is well organized, community-based and easily accessible.

Call “211”
Where available, “211” is a free, simple, easy-to-remember number to call for Information and Referral services as outlined above. “211” is not currently available in every county. The Ohio Council of Information & Referral Providers, through the 211 Ohio Collaborative, is leading the effort to implement 211 Ohio statewide.

HUD Approved Housing Counselors
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds free or low-cost housing counseling. Housing counselors can assist you in understanding the law and your options, organizing your finances and negotiating with your lender if you need this assistance.
