Guide to the Records of the Licking County Recorder

Abstract: The collection consists of documents recorded by the Licking County Recorder’s Office.
 
Restrictions on Access: Collection is open for research
 
Administrative History: The Recorder’s functions began in the Northwest Territory during the 1790s and were appointed by the associate judges of the common pleas court. In 1829, the County Recorder became an elective position as it is today, serving a four-year term. Presently, the County Recorder is responsible for recording and maintaining a permanent record of every document pertaining to the conveyance and encumbrance of land within the county and collects fees for recording such documents. The office also ensures every document is accurately filed, recorded, indexed and accessible to the public. The Recorder serves on the County’s Record Commission Board.
 
Arrangement: The collection is divided into the following series:
      Series 1: Stallion Liens. 1884-1891. .33 cubic feet.
      Series 2: Corporation Record, 1845-1936, one bound volume.
      Series 2: Leases, Assignment of Leases, & Release of Leases. 1839-1919. .33 cubic feet.
