Commission Members
 
William S. Powell, Jr. is the president of the Licking County Veterans' Service Commission representing the AMVETS. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964 serving as a scuba diver for satellite recovery. He is the Past-Commander for AMVETS Post #345, a Past Commander for American Legion Post #85, a member of VFW Post #1060. Mr. Powell is a past Governor of the Moose Chapter #499, is a member of the Newark Eagles, and the Druids Club. He is employed as a Deputy Sheriff Bailiff for Licking County and has lived in Newark since he was twelve years old. Bill served on the Licking County Veterans’ Service Commission from April 1, 1994 to December 31, 1999. He was reappointed to the commission and has served since January 1, 2001.
 
 
 
Dale E. Miller serves on the commission representing the DAV. He is currently serving as the vice-president. Mr. Miller served in the United States Army during WWII and is the Commander of DAV Chapter #23 and a member of the American Legion Post #85, VFW Post #1060, AMVETS Post #345, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart #498. Dale has served as a member of the Licking County Veterans’ Service Commission since January 1, 2002.
 
 
 
Rudy Sasko represents the American Legion members of Licking County and serves as Secretary of the Commission. Rudy retired from the United States Air Force having served initially with the Army Air Corps during WWII. Besides WWII, his military career included service during Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, Rudy moved to Newark eventually retiring from the Newark Air Force Base in the Plans and Programs division. Today Rudy dedicates himself to helping those in his community. He is a very active volunteer at the Newark VA Healthcare Clinic and is the Assistant Post Service Officer at the American Legion Post #85. He is a life member of the VFW and the American Legion. He has served as a member of the Licking County Veterans’ Service Commission since January 1, 2005.
 
 
 
Bernie Volpe represents the VFW members of Licking County on the Veterans' Service Commission. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1986 after over twenty-four years of service. He is a life member of the VFW Post #1060 where he serves as a Quartermaster. He is also a life member of the American Legion Post #85 (past exec board member), a life member of AMVETS Post #50, a life member of the Air Force Officers Association and a member of Rolling Thunder Chapter 10. Bernie has served on the commission since January 1, 2006.
 
 
 
Gary Jones represents the Vietnam Veterans’ of America Inc. on the Licking County Veterans’ Service Commission. He served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1969 and during that time served two tours in Vietnam. He is a Life Member of VVA Chapter #55, a member of the American Legion Post #85, a member of the VFW Post #1060, a member of the Licking County Veterans’ Alliance, member and vice president of the Veterans Initiative Task Force, board member of the Agent Orange/Dioxin Committee, executive board member and secretary of the Vietnam Veterans Buckeye Foundation. He has served on the Licking County Veterans’ Service Commission since March 8, 2006.
